Enter results in the grid
Fill the results grid in the Data stage in one of four ways:
- Lay out the grid (on an empty grid): the study's suggested design becomes a row for every result, with IDs, levels, days and replicates filled in. You only type the results. See laying out the grid.
- Import a file: a CSV, TSV or
.xlsxfile or a pasted table. This suits more than a few rows. See import a file. - Paste cells from a spreadsheet into the grid.
- Type results, adding rows with Add row.
The results grid
Section titled “The results grid”Use Blank template (CSV) for the required columns or Run this study for the bench guide. Check the number format and unit below the grid, for example Decimal point · mg/dL. Each row's last button opens the row dialog: see Correct or exclude a result.
The calculation reads values as numbers using the study's number format.
Lay out the grid
Section titled “Lay out the grid”Most studies offer Lay out the grid on an empty grid. Its counts start at the study's suggested design, for example 2 materials × 5 days × 1 run × 5 replicates for multi-day precision; change them to match your study. ID prefix sets how IDs are numbered: with QC, each level's material is QC-1, QC-2; with S, each specimen is S-1, S-2. The line under the counts says how many rows it makes and the first and last ID. Choose Create entry rows, then type your measurements into the blank result cells. The study keeps the prefix, so IDs it fills in later (a result typed without an ID, or a level's material) use it too. A lot comparison needs the two lot names on Set up first, so each row gets its lot.
Above a grid with rows, a line shows the completed row count, such as 34 of 50 rows entered. With several levels, it also gives each level's count.
Go to next required cell takes you to a blank or unreadable required value, so you can resume entry after reopening a study. It skips excluded rows and disappears when the required cells are complete.
Add a day or run
Section titled “Add a day or run”For multi-day precision and bias studies, open Add a day or run above the grid. Choose Add day or Add run, choose the existing day or run whose structure you want to reuse, and check the new label. A numbered label defaults to the next unused number. The preview says how many rows will be added.
The new rows keep the included materials, levels and replicate labels. A new day keeps the source day's runs; a new run stays within the selected day. Every measurement starts blank. Choose Undo last change to remove the new batch in one step. Follow your collection plan when deciding which days and runs to add.
Type results
Section titled “Type results”- Select Add row. The cursor goes to the row's first column. Any level, day and run columns start at
1, and the replicate at the row number. Change them as needed. - Type each value. Clicking a cell selects its value, so what you type replaces it; click again to edit inside the value. Tab moves right. Enter moves to the next row, and Shift+Enter to the row above. Up and Down move between rows when the suggestions list is closed. On the last row, Enter adds a new row.
A value you change after it is saved keeps its original beside it. See Correct or exclude a result.
Reuse a label
Section titled “Reuse a label”Select a lot, material ID, instrument, level, day, run, role, storage condition or diluent cell to see values already used in that column. The most-used labels appear first, with the number of other included rows using each one. Type to narrow the list. Choose a value with the pointer, or use Up/Down and Enter; Enter also moves down to the next row. Tab accepts a highlighted choice and moves right. Escape closes the list and keeps what you typed. You can always enter a new label.
Fill selected cells
Section titled “Fill selected cells”For one lot used on 15 rows, type it in the first row, then select that lot cell and the 14 cells below it. Drag down the column, Shift-click the last cell, or hold Shift and press Up/Down. The selected cells have a colored outline.
The bar above the grid shows the rows selected, the first cell's value and how many cells will change. Choose Fill down, or press Ctrl+D (Cmd+D), to copy that value to the selected cells below it. If the selection mixes blank and filled cells, Fill blanks fills just the gaps. Excluded rows are skipped. A numeric-looking label such as 00157 keeps its leading zeros.
Undo fill reverses the whole fill in one step. Clear selection or Escape removes the selection without changing values. A fill copies exactly the first selected value; it does not calculate a sequence. For planned days, runs and replicates, use Lay out the grid.
Correct a repeated label
Section titled “Correct a repeated label”Open Correct a repeated label, choose its column and exact existing label, then type the correction. The preview shows the old and new text and how many included cells will change. Replace matching labels changes only those exact matches in that column; measurements and excluded rows stay as entered. Undo last change restores the whole correction.
Paste from a spreadsheet
Section titled “Paste from a spreadsheet”- Select the cell where the block should start.
- Paste (Ctrl+V or Cmd+V).
- Check Rows to paste above the grid. Matching headings map columns by name; otherwise each pasted column shows its destination. The review lists the grid rows, number format and how many filled cells will change. Next rows shows later entries. Recognized headings are skipped automatically. Other text, including
NA, stays in its row; tick Skip the first row if it contains column headings only when it does. - Choose Paste followed by the row count, or Cancel paste to return to the starting cell. The grid stays unchanged until you apply the paste.
The paste fills the cells to the right of and below the selected cell, adding rows as needed.
Undo and redo
Section titled “Undo and redo”Undo last change or Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z) undoes unsaved typing, one visit to a cell at a time, or an entire fill, repeated-label correction, added day/run or pasted block in one step. Undoing a paste restores overwritten entries and removes the rows the paste added. Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y (Cmd+Shift+Z) redoes. Undo starts afresh after a save, calculation or row-dialog change. To reverse a correction or exclusion made in the row dialog, use that dialog.
Deal with rows without a value
Section titled “Deal with rows without a value”A row missing a needed value can't be calculated. While you type, a notice above the grid names rows you skipped (blank above the last row you filled in) and rows with nothing in them; after you calculate, it names every row still missing a value. Its button excludes them or removes empty rows in one step. See blank results. For values below a reporting limit, such as <0.01, see handle missing and censored values.
Save with Save changes or Calculate results. See Save, discard or combine changes and validation messages.
